What is a materiality assessment?
A materiality assessment is a process used by organisations to identify and prioritise the environmental, social, and governance (ESG) issues that are most important to both the business and its stakeholders. It helps companies focus their sustainability strategies and reporting on the topics that are most important to them, and likely to influence stakeholder decisions or long-term value.
Do I need to complete a double materiality assessment?
A double materiality assessment looks at both financial and impact materiality. Double materiality assessments are a required element of certain standards such as the European Sustainability Reporting Standards. However, it can be a very useful exercise to complete for understanding more about your organisation.
Which reporting framework or standard should I use?
There are many different frameworks and standards out there. Some offer a more streamlined approach which reduces the reporting burden for SMEs, others have more complex requirements which are expected of larger businesses.
